Travelling Via Nagdhunga Tunnel? Prepare to Pay Tolls from November 1

Vehicles using Nepal’s first modern road tunnel, the Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel, will have to pay toll charges from November 1, 2026, ending its initial period of free operation. The Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel had previously been partially opened in August following its inauguration.

The Nagdhunga Tunnel Construction Project has announced the new toll structure, with fees varying according to vehicle category and direction of travel.

The rates have been determined based on a decision by the Road Board Nepal’s Executive Committee on October 28, 2026, and a notice published in the Nepal Gazette on April 9, 2026.

The tunnel has also become an important alternative route following a road subsidence incident at Patleban, Nagdhunga. On September 2, the tunnel was partially opened to help ease traffic after a section of the existing road was damaged. Vehicles travelling from Kathmandu towards Muglin were subsequently diverted through the tunnel.

Under the new toll system, Category 1 vehicles, including cars, vans, pickups, tractors, microbuses and other light vehicles, will pay Rs 65 when entering Kathmandu and Rs 60 when leaving the valley.

Meanwhile, Category 4 vehicles, comprising multi-axle trucks and heavy equipment, will face the highest toll, at Rs 600 for entering Kathmandu and Rs 250 for leaving.
